“Digital transformation”, it’s a term that’s floated a lot, especially over the last few years. Some business leaders may even view the term as buzzwords used as a convenient catch-all phrase for any kind of business change. However, for many businesses a digital-first approach is essential to survival in a crowded marketplace.
Simply put, digital transformation can be the process of making changes and updates to how work is done to meet today’s new and evolving digital expectations. It can include automating processes, collecting and analyzing data, and even offering new products and services through digital channels.
Over the last few years, we have worked with many organizations to improve the changing needs and demands of their customers. One example includes Muirfield Riding Therapy (MRT), who approached us to help design a new administrative database to replace their current system. They needed a platform that was secure, could be remotely accessed, and was simple to use.
In 2020, when the pandemic hit, the changes that had been made through digital transformation allowed MRT’s administrative staff to continue doing their valuable work safely from home, something that would not have been possible before.
Digital transformation should be viewed as an opportunity to improve the changing needs and demands of your customers, team and industry itself. Technology will form a large part of this change but it should also be driven by organizational culture, make sure your team understands the project and bring them along on the journey with you. Carefully consider the partners that you want to work with and gain a wider understanding of their experiences and credentials at the very start of your project.

Co-design has become a popular approach when building tech, often coupled with agile teams and MVP building. The approach means that the client spends quite a lot of time meeting with the development team to discuss progress and talk about the project. At Bad Dinosaur, we really believe that this is a great way to work, despite the amount of work it requires of the client - or maybe because of it.
